@oiramormedeiros The way most people “compose” and read them these days, I don’t blame you. Poetry tends to be better if they’re composed before the 1920′s. In general, you need some imagination and an attention span longer then a gnat to enjoy them if they’re done properly.
That’s it isnt it, not alienating the reader. I have many original ideas down. I just want to get it formatted/puncuated properly as I was considering sending for possible punblication, which has never bothered me tbh but recently, I now have quite alot and not one has seen the light of day, feels a waste also.
@Helios601 I have written very little poetry myself, focusing more on performing what others have composed. You have multiple formats in which to write, so knock yourself out. I’d advise you to ignore most poetry forms after WW1 which become increasingly existential and worthless. The main thing, does your poem have a central idea, and does it tell a story? Can you make your idea clear in the mind of another person?
I find my poems are written as soon as I think of them, I then just have to put pen to paper and it seems to come very easily, I have no reason why, I have family members past and present who wrote poetry also, although I never spoke/speak with them.
Good viseo- Can I have some advice here, I write poetry nearly every day, practising and practising but I’m not sure how to set it out, the constrution of it e.g.
Can somebody help me in how
to construct poetry, how and
when do you know to
start a new line?
I’ve always loved writing but I never even attempted to write poetry because I had this notion that it was only for sissy boys or dorks. Boy was I wrong, I find myself loving poetry. Subscribed : )
Hi, if it’s okay with you, you’ll find this video and “A Defense of Poetry” in a playlist I made on my page for people interested in Romantic poetry ans ideas. I thought they might enjoy your videos, too. Take care.
Just got a hold of the complete Shelley and Keats book, so there will be more in the future. Did you ever go see the Bright Star movie? I just saw the trailer.
Poetry from the Greek 'poiesis'/ποίησις is a making, forming, creating, or the art of poetry, or a poem) is a form of literary art in which language is used for its aesthetic and evocative qualities in addition to, or in lieu of, its apparent meaning. Poetry may be written independently, as discrete poems or, may occur in conjunction with other arts, as in poetic drama, hymns, lyrics, or prose poetry. It is published in dedicated magazines the longest established being Poetry and Oxford Poetry, individual collections and wider anthologies.

@Amiduffer Wow, you just taught me new word. Thanks : )

@Stuffzes That’s good. Just as in Shelley’s time when he was persecuted for his poetry, thinkers always get maligned.
