Posted on

Jugs of Merry reel is part of a suite of Celtic compositions first written by Andrew Hennessey and Colin Dawson performed by Andrew Hennessey and Colin Dawson, Gavin Macrae and Lorraine Jordan at the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival - Edinburgh University Folk Song Society venue at the Lady Glenorchy Church cellar in 1984 - for a show called Children of the Storm. The original Celtic pieces were written to depict the cycle of water in Celtia as it comes in from the sea, falls as rain on the crags, gathers as streams then as a spate into the rivers - and becomes part of the harvest of human activity before again heading out to the sea. The track Jugs of Merry depicts the harvest celebration and thanksgiving The original show had small thematic poems narrated by Robert Brydon eg daughter of the rain, the lonely crags, gathering of the streams, the rain, the storm, the spate, the river, the harvest Tracks from Children of the Storm can be obtained from the ScottishAndrew shop on REVERBNATION www.reverbnation composer/fiddle player: Andrew Hennessey composer/arranger/ guitar Colin Dawson the tartan designs are part of a new artform - an asymmetric paradigm for tartan invented by Andrew Hennessey in october 2007 in Edinburgh, Scotland called STARTAN and further examples can be seen at www.scottishbydesign.biz
